What is an Occupational Therapist?
In short, an occupational therapist (OT) is a professional problem-solver with a focus on function. Occupational therapists are specially trained to assess how a body engages in daily activities in order to improve independence, efficiency, safety, and to decrease pain with these tasks. Occupational therapists provide intervention to achieve this goal in three key areas: Physical abilities, cognitive abilities, and environmental considerations. An OT will provide physical training and rehabilitation to improve strength, balance and range of motion to address physical limitations. Cognitive skills training can be implemented to address areas of memory, problem solving and sequencing. Occupational therapists also provide detailed analysis of your work or living environment and assist with improving the overall safety and accessibility of your environment.
